EA refuses Forza 4 use of Porsche license

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

EA has chosen not to allows developer Turn 10 Studios to feature the Porsche range of cars in its upcoming title, Forza Motorsport 4.

EA owns the exclusive rights to feature Porsche vehicles in its games, but in the past has reached agreements with the Forza franchise through sub-licensing deals.

Writing on the official Forza Motorsport blog community manager Brian Ekberg explained that was not the case this time.

"EA couldn't see their way towards collaborating again," he said, addressing fans of the series.

"We've asked our contacts at EA to reconsider their position frequently and regularly over the last 18 months.

We also reached out to various influential people in gaming to lobby on our behalf, and on your behalf, but that was to no avail."

He also wrote that Turn 10 had approached "key people in Porsche circles," who also campaigned on its behalf.

The Forza franchise currently has the exclusive license for Ferrari vehicles on Xbox and PC.

"We've always found that we just weren't willing to block other racing games from having Ferraris outright, as we believed that this would do nothing but hurt the racing ecosystem."

Turn 10 is a Microsoft studio based in Washington, and develops the Forza Motorsport series for Xbox, starting with the original title in 2005.

Need for Speed Shift 2 Coming….maybe.

Thursday, July 15, 2010
Back in September 2009, Slightly Mad Studios and EA released Need for Speed Shift, pushing the franchise towards simulation-oriented gaming after years of Need for Speed arcade titles.

And even though the 2010 E3 Expo passed by without any news on a new Need for Speed from the British developer, a hot rumor started circulating the net yesterday, getting people excited about Need for Speed Shift 2.

It all started with Chris Mcclure’s LinkedIn profile in which Mcclure, former senior programmer at Slightly Mad Studios, claimed to have worked on Need for Speed Shift 2 among other titles.

Following all the buzz, Mcclure has corrected his profile to only include Need for Speed Shift, stating that it was a mere typo.

Given that Mcclure was part of SMS until February 2010, he could theoretically have been involved in the early development of a Shift sequel. It remains to be seen whether this was really just a typo or a case of leaked info on an upcoming title.

Need for Speed - Pursuit

Friday, June 25, 2010
Based on Need for Speed Shift which personally I am a fan of a new version of NFS Pursuit is coming.  NFS titles are showing a lad in the 3D effort plus the later versions are D-BOX enabled giving 3D and full motion.  It may not be everyones cup of tea but given the tools EA should deliver a great title for those that like this race and driving style.  Here is what EA have to say.

This November, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit will transform online entertainment by bringing to life the adrenaline and intensity of high speed cop pursuits and changing the way that people connect and compete with their friends.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is being developed by Criterion Games, the developers behind the critically-acclaimed Burnout racing series. These renowned innovators are redefining action racing by delivering an experience that connects players through intense competition whether playing online together or taking on friends’ challenges.

At the heart of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is a suite of connected features called Need for Speed Autolog that enables players to connect, compare and compete with their friends effortlessly.

Exotic cars on the open road, the rush of the escape, the thrill of the takedown – this is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.

Need For Speed: Shift update

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

A patch has been released for EA's Need for Speed: Shift version.  The PS3 patch loads when the software is first read for loading.

The patch fixes a number of complaints by users and updates a range of features and enhancements.  The download is 234mb so a big update. The EA servers are going to take a pounding.  It took an hour to download and install in NZ.

First impressions are good with a number of enhancements in car feel.  Getting rid of the grass textures randomly appearing on the track also seemed a good move.  Its still arcade in feel but I don't mind that for some great driving fun.

In December new cars will be available for download on the PS3.

A list of fixes can be seen courtesy of the NFS Forum Need for Speed: Shift Patch list
