iRacing Upgrade

Saturday, February 04, 2012

iRacing has sent out an update.

Hey Everyone,

So you may have noticed the large download you had to perform last night to your iRacing software. Well the iRacing crew updated several cars and visual cues as well updates to the physics model to get iRacing that much closer to the real thing (how much closer can they really get?).

Well here is a quick list of some of the things they did:

The following cars received the New Tire Model. This helps balance the car out significantly and makes them much more fun to drive.

• Star Mazda
• Radical SR8
• Riley Daytona Prototype
• Williams FW31

Additionally, they updated the tire model on the following cars:

• Chevrolette Corvette C6R
• Chevrolet Impala
• Chevrolet Impala Class B
• Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
• Chevrolet Silverado

• Ford GT
• HPD ARX‐01c
• Legends Ford '34 Coupe
• Rookie Mazda MX‐5 Cup and Roadster
• Skip Barber Formula 2000
• Spec Racer Ford
• Street Stock

One thing you may notice is your spotter has become chattier. Now they will update you on engine smoke, engine damage, and wheel damage, and pace car status, if cars ahead/behind are for position, information on the leader (pitting, ahead, etc.), if slow or stopped cars are on track, status of race (10 laps to go, race is over). The spotter will also try to warn about serving black flags before being DQ'd by the end of the race.

Additionally they updated sounds, drafting, the brake model and some updates to the tracks which includes night racing on some of them.

Check out this link for full details on what was updated.

iRacing.com – Mclaren MP4-12C Announced

Thursday, September 22, 2011

iRacing.com has announced the newest addition to the lineup of cars in their online racing simulation as the Mclaren MP4-12C GT3 sports car will be available to subscribers in 2012.

iRacing’s partnership with Mclaren started in May when the online racing simulation gave their subscribers access to the ATLAS Express data analysis software developed by Mclaren. Now, iRacing subscribers will get their hands on a virtual version of the company’s newest sports car racer.

Powered by a 3.8 liter V8 bi-turbo engine, the MP4-12C is build to the FIA GT3 regulations based on the MP4-12C road car. The car made its competition debut in the British GT Championship earlier this year and went on to compete in various events, including the Spa 24 Hours race.

The car became an instant success as all 20 cars built for the 2012 season have already been sold to customers.

The addition of the MP4-12C broadens iRacing sports car racing content, giving subscribers access to cars from all three major GT classes as the Mclaren joins the GT1-class Corvette C6.R and the Ford GT-R GT2 class car.

Enhanced Online Racing Data Analysis Comes to iRacing

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

iRacing announced today a partnership with McLaren Electronic Systems to incorporate its ATLAS Express data analysis software by the end of May 2011. This means racers will have access to data acquisition and telemetry software used on every car in the FIA Formula One World Championship since 2008 and on NASCAR’s standard ECU (engine control unit) in 2012.

ATLAS Express can be used to analyze and develop the handling of racers’ cars, providing more detailed information regarding performance such as “the real time tire surface temperatures, along with critical data such as lateral acceleration, steering wheel angle and damper/spring deflection,” states the press release.

Broadcasts of online races will now be able to use screen overlays of real time on-board telemetry (remote measuring and reporting of racing information) from individual cars, while racers will be able to “use plug-ins for a variety of external custom hardware including vibrating pedals, base shakers, and motion platforms.”

iRacing is working with McLaren Electronic Systems to create workbooks and documents to help members use the ATLAS Express applications. The software, documentation, and workbooks should be released before the end of May 2011.

Those with a creative flare, take note of an iRacing paint scheme contest with JR Motorsports. The deadline is 23:59 GMT on 5/25/11. The prize is a framed autographed JR Motorsports photograph of the winning paint scheme. Coincidentally, RSC posted this recent article on a visit to JR Motorsports.
